What is the President*s Design Award Singapore?
Launched in 2006 as part of Singapore’s strategy to develop a creative economy in the new millennium, the President*s Design Award (P*DA) stands as the nation’s highest honour for designers and design projects across all disciplines.
Conferred by the President of the Republic of Singapore and jointly administered by the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the award recognises extraordinary individuals and projects that have positively impacted the lives of Singaporeans and the global community.
In 2017, the P*DA was re-launched as a biennial (meaning: every 2 years) award with a deepened emphasis on measurable impact.
The accolade is presented across two main categories: Designer of the Year, awarded to designers with a consistently excellent body of work that makes a significant industry impact, and Design of the Year, awarded to projects that excel in enabling economic transformation, raising quality of life, advancing Singapore’s brand, culture, and community, or achieving ground-breaking breakthroughs in design.
Over its 20-year history, the P*DA has celebrated 130 Designs of the Year and 47 Designers of the Year, serving as a hallmark of purposeful design that drives economic competitiveness, elevates everyday living, and strengthens national identity.
