Mistral ÉlanPure 5-in-1 Smart Dehumidifier & Air Purifier: 3 Weeks living in Singapore’s haze

Living with asthma and respiratory allergies in Singapore means managing indoor air quality is a necessity, not a luxury. Between the seasonal haze and the smoke from the recent August Hungry Ghost Festival burn offerings from the streets, keeping the air inside the house clean and dry becomes essential to preventing flare-ups.

For the past three weeks, the Mistral ÉlanPure 5-in-1 Smart Dehumidifier & Air Purifier (product code number MDH1603DW) served as a primary line of defense for me. Here is my honest review of this product and who I think it’s best suited for.

For 1-bedroom & 2-bedroom homes

The Mistral ÉlanPure is a compact unit best suited for small to medium-sized living spaces, such as a 1-bedroom or 2-bedroom HDB flat or condo.

All-rounded, useful device

Rather than running single-purpose appliances, I found that it handles daily air purification, indoor laundry drying, and post-cleaning home maintenance well.

On normal days, the smart fan and air purification modes run in the background to filter out ambient dust and odors.

When haze and smog make hanging clothes outdoors impossible, switching to Dehumidifier mode dries a rack of wet laundry quickly inside without leaving a damp, musty smell in the home.

After mopping the floors or washing the bathrooms etc., running the dehumidifier strips excess moisture from the air, allowing wet surfaces to dry in minutes.

It’s first an air purifier

First up, this dehumidifier also acts as an air purifier. Room air passes through a HEPA 13 filter that captures 99.95% of airborne particles, dust, pollen, and allergens down to 0.3 microns, followed by an activated carbon filter designed to eliminate household odors, smoke, and volatile organic compounds.

To further improve indoor air quality, an active ionizer releases negative ions to bind floating particles, while a built-in UV light sterilizes trapped microorganisms to prevent bacteria and mold spores from breeding inside the machine. (This 4-step air purification method is quite the standard and norm amongst air purifiers in Singapore these days.)

Preventing dust mites & mould

For allergy sufferers like myself, running the dehumidifier after you wake up in the morning helps prevent dust mite growth.

Dust mites cannot “drink” water; they absorb moisture directly from the surrounding air. Peer-reviewed studies (such as research published by the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology) show that maintaining indoor relative humidity (RH) below 50% severely dehydrates dust mites, causing their populations to drop dramatically within days.

Maintaining humidity under 50% at home is recommended for individuals allergic to dust mites (read this National Library of Medicine paper).

According to environmental standards from the US EPA and CDC, mold spores require elevated moisture levels (typically above 60% RH) to germinate. Keeping your bedroom in the 35%–55% range creates a hostile environment for both mold spores and dust mites, protecting sensitive airways.

Keeps your house’s temperature lower

Singapore’s natural outdoor air regularly sits between 74% and 80% humidity, creating that sticky, “grimy” sensation. The human body cools itself primarily through the evaporation of sweat.

In a drier environment, moisture evaporates rapidly off your skin, making you feel noticeably cooler and crisper - even if the actual thermostat reading hasn’t dropped a single degree.

Good dehumidifier for a small house

The Mistral ÉlanPure 5-in-1 Smart Dehumidifier & Air Purifier is built around a high-efficiency dehumidification engine capable of extracting up to 24 liters of moisture per day under standard warm conditions (30degC at a typical Singaporean humidity of 80%).

Designed to manage humidity in spaces up to 48 sqm, it utilizes an energy-efficient brushless DC motor consuming a maximum of 340W alongside eco-friendly R290 refrigerant. For measure, these are the typical small house sizes in Singapore:

• 2-room Flexi HDB flat: 48 sqm
• 1-bedroom condominium: 40 - 52 sqm
• 2-bedroom condominium: 58 - 65 sqm
• 3-room HDB flat: 60 - 68 sqm

The unit maintains a relatively quiet operation at under 42 dBA and features an auto-swing lid to evenly distribute dry airflow across the room.

Large water tank capacity

Water collection is managed either through its integrated 3.0-liter tank - which automatically shuts off when full.

The unit’s water tank holds enough capacity to last 2 to 3 days during standard daily air maintenance. However, when actively pulling moisture out of a fresh rack of wet laundry, expect to drain the tank daily.

Mistral mobile app access

The Wi-Fi control via the smartphone app provides real convenience. Being able to check indoor conditions and toggle or power off the unit remotely while at the office has been fantastic and really convenient for me.

Mistral ElanPure Dehumidifier & Air Purifier vs Dyson Hushjet Big & Quiet Pure Formaldehyde/ Ioniser UV air purifier

Finally, I recently had the pleasure to view the new Dyson Hushjet Big and Quiet (launching October 2026 reportedly). It’s also an air purifier, and a ventilator that rapidly cools down the house.

So, my immediate comparison was this Dyson Hushjet Big and Quiet vs the Mistral Elanpure Dehumidifier and air purifier.

The Dyson exists in a premium price tier. Its projection system (Cone Aerodynamics) circulates air across large rooms far faster and doubles effectively as a high-velocity ventilator fan that cools down the house rapidly. It also features a suite of live sensors that monitor everything from PM2.5 and VOCs to NO2 and Formaldehyde. That leaves you with no guessing, since the data is all presented in front of you.

However, Dyson does not extract moisture from the air. If humidity control is what you need, the Mistral provides practical, real-world utility that the Dyson cannot replicate.

I think if you live in a small house, don’t care too much for branded items, would appreciate practicality much more, then the Mistral Elanpure Dehumidifier is really fantastic for you.

Mistral ElanPure Dehumidifier & Air Purifier ($459) vs Trident AirDome 60 Air Purifier ($768)

I also use a Trident air purifier at home. It’s an understated air purifier that’s not so widely-marketed. It’s developed by A-Star in Singapore, and has washable air purifier filters. By comparison to Mistral’s Elanpure Dehumidifier (and air purifier), I feel that Trident is a better air purifier for serious allergy sufferers.

Developed locally in Singapore, the Trident is an understated gem. With washable filters and an ultra-responsive sensor, it detects subtle smoke particles (like joss paper burned down the corridor) faster than almost any mainstream competitor. Its direct airflow also functions nicely as a personal cooling fan. For pure, heavy-duty air purification during peak haze season, the Trident edges out the rest.

Trident is an air purifier with a fan function. So, if you’re seated near the Trident enough, you can also use it as a cool-down fan. Again, the Trident air purifiers do not offer dehumidifying functions.
